Shopify, VTEX or WooCommerce: which one fits your business
We get asked about platforms almost as much as about prices. The short answer is that all three are good and all three can be a mistake: it depends on your operation, your team and your growth pace. We work with all three, so this guide wears no jersey.
Shopify: speed to start selling now
The platform we recommend to most brands. It launches fast, it is stable, the checkout converts very well and the app ecosystem solves almost everything. Its monthly cost and fees are the toll for having no technical headaches. If your business needs to be selling next month, it is hard to lose by choosing Shopify.
WooCommerce: total flexibility
It runs on WordPress, it is open source and pays no license. You can customize absolutely everything, integrate whatever you want and own every piece. The hidden cost is maintenance: hosting, updates, security and a good developer nearby. Ideal for complex catalogs, particular business logic or budgets that prefer investing in development over licenses.
VTEX: the enterprise league
For large operations: thousands of SKUs, multiple sellers, ERP integrations and teams that depend on the digital channel. Robust, scalable and built for serious Latin American retail. It also demands more budget and more team. We do not recommend it to start; we recommend it to scale.
The quick mental table
- Need to sell fast with no friction? Shopify.
- Need deep customization and full control? WooCommerce.
- Large retail operation with heavy integrations? VTEX.
The right platform is the one your operation can sustain, not the one in fashion.
And a secret: the platform matters less than speed, measurement and the purchase flow. A slow store loses sales on any platform.
